The big proposal has happened and you can't help but flash your dream engagement ring to everyone who congratulates you. Now the buzz of your engagement news is fizzling out, it's time to move onto the most important part of your wedding preparation. Choosing your perfect wedding dress!

Brides come in all different shapes and sizes, so it is important to choose a gown that will fit and flatter your best assets. What suits your maid of honor may not necessarily suit you, but that's okay because there will be a dress out there that was made for you!

Comfort is the Main Priority

Your dress should reflect on who you are as person, and accentuate the best parts about you. When trying on a dress, try something that you wouldn't necessarily go for alongside dresses that you've dreamed about. Choosing your dream wedding dress is an exciting journey, where you are made to feel like a princess. However, any dress you choose should make you feel comfortable, as it is going to cost a lot of money, and you'll be wearing it all day.

Making sure your dress suits your desired venue is also very important. If you're having a religious ceremony in a grand church then wearing a revealing, skimpy cocktail style dress is not appropriate. If you're having a beach wedding then a statement ball gown with a long train will be destroyed by the sand. If your wedding is going to take place in a statement castle then a ball gown or embellished mermaid gown will fit right in.

Michelle Keegan's summer wedding dress, hair and accessories suited the enchanted fairytale atmosphere of Tudor manor,  Hengrave Hall in Suffolk. In an interview for the Huffington Post she said her advice to any bride to be is;

"Always go for something you feel comfortable in - you'll be wearing it all day. Have a wedding dress and makeup that represents you and how you look, not how you want to look on the day."

Make Your Accessories Your Own.

If you want to follow tradition but give your wedding look a touch of your personality, then accessorising your wedding dress is the perfect way to do so.

A jewelled or natural birdcage veil helps create a beautiful vintage themed wedding as it goes with almost any dress, from 1950's style dresses to a full length gown. Birdcage veils were increasingly popular in the 1930's, and were bought back by the likes of Drew Barrymore and Katherine Heigl.

If you plan on wearing certain accessories on the big day then make sure to tell the shop assistants when you're shopping for your dress. If you are wearing a veil or belt that has been passed down the family, or a certain pair of shoes then you should bring it in and try it with your dress before making your decision.

Give Yourself Enough Time

Most wedding dress boutiques and bridal shops are appointment only, and  alterations can take a minimum of six months, so it is imperative that you give yourself enough time to find your perfect dress. Make the most of each fitting you have to make sure that you are comfortable in your gown.

Alongside time, it is also important to remember that size does not matter. If you usually wear a size 6 or 8, you'll probably be put in a 10 or 12. There is nothing to be upset about when it comes to the number on the label. If you plan on losing weight before the big day, you should order the size that is first tried on, as it is easier to take material in!
