What Are Tennis Bracelets?
Traditional tennis bracelets feature a single row of diamonds embedded along their surface. The lightweight bracelets have a flexible serpentine structure fixed with a clasp, and can be made from a variety of different metals. Tennis bracelets are a classic piece of statement jewellery and make truly gorgeous gifts, perfect if you're struggling to find a Christmas present for a special someone in your life.
Why Are They Called Tennis Bracelets?
The bracelets got their unusual name from a 1987 tennis match during the US Open. During one of her games, former world number one player, was wearing a diamond bracelet designed by George Bedewi. During a particularly vigorous shot, the bracelet's clasp snapped, and it flew off into the court. Evert insisted on stopping play until the bracelet was found (quite rightly so), and the rest, as they say, is history! Since then, match jewellery has become increasingly popular, and players, such as Serena Williams, still wear tennis bracelets on court to this day.
